Giulianna Mendieta

Bilingual Research Data Technician II

Overview

Giulianna Mendieta joined Duke University’s Center for Child and Family Policy in July 2025 as a Bilingual Research Data Technician II, supporting the Community Navigation Study. She brings over two decades of experience in program evaluation, public policy analysis, and applied research across Latin America and the United States.

Trained as a social worker, Giulianna pursued advanced studies in Population and Sustainable Development and earned a master’s degree in Public Policy, graduating at the top of her class. Her career includes leadership roles in major research and evaluation projects at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) and the National Institute for the Evaluation of Education (INEE) in Mexico, as well as contributions to international organizations such as UNESCO and the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). She has designed and led large-scale evaluations in education, youth, workforce training, and social policy, with a consistent focus on equity, evidence-based policymaking, and expanding opportunities for vulnerable populations.

Her research interests include early childhood development, educational equity, family well-being, social inclusion, and the design of policies and programs that reduce inequality. At Duke, she is excited to contribute her bilingual and cross-cultural expertise to longitudinal studies that aim to strengthen child and family outcomes.

Outside of work, Giulianna enjoys oil painting as a form of relaxation, exploring local parks with her family, and celebrating her multicultural background—she was born in Peru, is naturalized Mexican, and now lives in North Carolina with her Colombian husband and their son.
