Associate Research Professor
Beth Gifford is an associate research professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy. She is a core faculty member of the Center for Child and Family Policy and is leading the Social and Economic Component of the Children’s Health and Discovery Institute housed within the Duke School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics. She uses large administrative and population-level datasets to study individual’s health and well-being, and strives to employ the best empirical methods to inform decision makers in their policies and services. An overarching theme in her research is understanding how social policies and practices affect social inequities observed in the way our public institutions treat those they are designed to serve. These institutions include education, social services, criminal justice, and health care systems.
