Wanda Burns, Ed.S., started her career with Duke University Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry working on an epidemiological project for Jane Costello. She was the on-site project coordinator from 1992 until 2017 for the Great Smoky Mountains Study, a project located in the 14 western counties of North Carolina. Subsequently, she has worked for C-StARR and the Center for Child and Family Policy. Burns is currently working with Kenneth Dodge as the western region site project coordinator for the NIH grant NICHD: Intergenerational Persistence of Treatment Effects in Human Capital Interventions which involves revisiting the original 1,420 participants of the Great Smoky Mountains Study. She is also working on the Intergenerational Transmission of Resilience to ACEs project.
