MEASURE: Future Orientation Inventory

Description:

The 15- item measure of future orientation focuses on individuals’ inclinations to recognize and consider future events or consequences in everyday life. The same response format used in the Peer Pressure measure is used here. That is, each item contains two opposing statements reflecting greater or lesser future orientation and the respondent is asked to indicate which statement is more true about himself/herself, and whether it is ‘really true” or “sort of true”. An example item is “Some people take life one day at a time without worrying about the future BUT other people are always thinking bout what tomorrow will bring”. Each item is scored on a 4-point scale, with a score of 1 indicating low future orientation and a score of 4 indicating high future orientation.
