The Adolescent Health Initiative (AHI) is a collaboration between the Durham community and Duke University Medical Center to develop a plan to enhance existing adolescent health services in Durham County. The AHI is one of 10 projects sponsored by Durham Health Innovations and funded by the Duke Center for Community Research and Duke Translational Medicine Institute aimed at reducing death or disability from specific diseases or disorders prevalent in the community.
Each of the projects has received up to $100,000 to be used by the end of 2009 for the planning process. At that point, plans for the projects will be presented and evaluated to determine how to move forward with a new approach to improving health in Durham. This presentation will describe the theoretical underpinnings, evaluation methods, and preliminary results of the planning process. The discussion will focus on implications for and present status of the development of an evidence-based model to build upon and improve existing health services for adolescents in Durham County.
