Join us for a discussion with NC State Superintendent for Public Instruction Mo Green on leadership, education policy, and the comprehensive strategic plan to making North Carolina’s public schools the best in the nation by 2030.
Maurice “Mo” Green’s vision for North Carolina public schools can be summed up in three words: Achieving Educational Excellence. The son of a special education teacher, Green is a lifelong champion of public education and has seen first-hand its ability to transform both lives and communities. As North Carolina’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Green is dedicated to ensuring every student has access to a high-quality public education and to strengthening support for educators statewide. A double Duke University graduate and former attorney, he served as general counsel, COO, and deputy superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools before leading Guilford County Schools, where his innovative leadership boosted academic performance and graduation rates. From 2016–2023, he directed the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, launching the “All For NC” framework to advance democracy, education, sustainability, and equity. Active in numerous educational and civic boards, Green is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Pi Phi fraternities and the proud parent of two North Carolina public school graduates.
